Startled Woman and the Well

A third daughter was born to the most prominent yangban family in Dalbeol Village. From birth, everyone praised her for what they said was her unrivaled beauty. Then, when she turned seven, she awoke late one night with a parched throat. It is said that she ventured out to draw water from the well, and let out an agonized howl. It was the first time she had seen her own face.
