Chapter 5: The Look in Agris's Eyes

The rift that opened next dropped me into Aphrodon. The past I had already lived through in Agris's domain was waiting for me there. From deeper inside, I heard Agris calling for Sylvia. The Black Spirit and I hid ourselves and watched our past selves from afar.

Then the Black Spirit pointed across the way. Grey, whom we had lost at the Sanctuary, was there casting a spell. I had to stop him before he could interfere again.

I attacked, but Grey brushed the strike aside with ease. The force that missed him struck the golden energy Agris had been gathering instead. Grey disappeared with a satisfied smile, and I heard Illezra cry out. In trying to stop him, I had become the cause of the very disruption I remembered.

The Dagger of Darkness flew toward Agris's mouth. Without time to think, I drove the Axiom Force into it once more. I barely managed to cleanse Grey's energy from the dagger, but the dagger continued toward Agris. When the smoke cleared, she stood there as if nothing had happened.

Agris repeated the same question as before, but the way she looked at my past self had changed. Where I remembered only resentment, there was now a gentleness touched with regret. When her gaze reached the place where we were hiding, space and time swept me away again.

Through the darkness, I could faintly hear Illezra's voice. I did not know whether I had truly set everything right, but I could not forget <b>that final look</b>.
