[Edanian Journey] Aphrodon

Chapter 6: The Land That Shines Brightly

After the battle, Agris laid down her weapon. For a brief moment, she had desperately believed that spring might finally come, but now she said this winter seemed to have no end.

"Is everything... lost...! Fine. Have your way. Trample me, or take my life."

Illezra said she understood why Agris could not help but fear the Black Spirit's presence. But if I truly served Hadum, I could simply have killed Agris and taken her power from the start.

Agris still insisted that she had sensed a Dark Invader, though she admitted that fear might have blinded her. Then she remembered the youngling she had protected until the very end, the last hope she still held dear, and that I had chosen not to harm it.

Agris asked whether she could ever dream of abundance again. Illezra reassured her that Sylvia had returned after thousands of years to keep her promise, and that everything would be all right now.

At last, Agris agreed to help us. What she offered was all of her fever, the power to be placed within the Heart of Atomagia.

"I offer my heart, filled with all my fever. O King, please save this world."

Once all of her fever had entered the heart, Agris's body lost its strength and was bound in place. Illezra looked upon the heart with satisfaction.

"With this power, I can continue my task."

Illezra left to stabilize the fever, while I decided to head to Angavu and rejoin my companions first.

A small outpost was being rebuilt there. Professor Alustin greeted me warmly when he saw me.

"Angavu! It means 'the land that shines brightly.' So that... is what Sylvia decided to call this land. Hmm. Good. Then we shall call this place Angavu Outpost."

Even as the shadow of destruction spread across the world, a small light was beginning to shine here, a sign that we could still move forward.

Carrying with me the power of spring Agris had left behind, I prepared to seek out Markthanan next.
