Chapter 5: The Night of Crimson Oath
According to the records of the Silver Age, the Night of Crimson Oath was when Elion, risen again after great suffering, punished the traitors.
The scriptures said that Elion returned to life and ascended. If the fragments of chaos referred to the Black Spirit, then perhaps Elion too had gained the power of Edana before becoming a god.
The first Edanas had used Black Stones to control the Black Spirits. Perhaps the scripture's claim that Elion created civilization was really a metaphor for giving new lives to symbiotes in that age of turmoil. The divinity bestowed upon the chosen could likewise have been the origin of the divine power inherited by people today.
I arranged the stone fragments we had found earlier in the order shown in the records. A new sentence appeared on the record atop the podium, declaring that all of it was true and calling upon us to bear witness. The assembled fragment itself bore what seemed to be an unfinished inscription:
"Here I stand, having witnessed all sins."
We moved on to the Golden Age. Sensing a powerful divine presence higher within the temple, we followed it and finally found the Tower of Will.
The tower built to carry mortal will to god stood before us. When we offered our prayer, a faint light seemed to shimmer around the tower, only to fade moments later.
We tried to work out what we were missing. Margarethe suggested taking another look at the fragment I had assembled. Perhaps there was still a sin we had yet to face.
Simply reaching an age did not mean we had learned its sin.
