[Edanian Journey] Elion

Chapter 2: A New Companion

Among the gathered devotees, I witnessed a ritual in which a sinner was offered up. The sinner was pierced by a priest and killed, then cast into the lake. Moments later, they rose again, looking just like the other devotees.

The priest praised the miracle, then named me as the next sinner.

I fought back against the devotees as they closed in, but even those I struck down rose again. Before long, I was surrounded. Then someone broke through one side of the crowd.

It was Sophia.

I ran toward her, and together we managed to escape. Sophia claimed that I had asked her beforehand to save me from danger, but I had no memory of doing anything of the sort.

Sophia was simply relieved to see me unharmed, calling me both the Hero of Calpheon and the King of Edana. Clearly, we still had much to explain to each other.

She had come here following the flow of sacred power. The sacred power that had once pooled in Orbita was now streaming toward Magaia all at once. According to the scriptures, Elion had built a city between heaven and earth to watch over humanity, and she was convinced this was that very sanctuary.

I told her what I had learned from Illezra in return. Sophia wanted to meet Elion and learn the truth behind the god's purpose and corruption for herself. I wanted answers as well.

She then asked about my sacred power and greatsword techniques. Though I was not a Valkyrie, Sophia said faith did not have to be expressed solely through the Church. If we shared the same faith, then we could still be sisters under the sky.

Even if Elion had fallen to corruption, Sophia believed we were still daughters of the same god, and that gave us all the more reason to try to stop what was happening.

I agreed and told her that I was also searching for a brazier. Sophia accepted that goal readily. If there was even a chance to drive back the darkness, she believed we had to press on, even if doing so meant defying doctrine.

And so, we set out together in search of Elion.
